Treatments Rehabilitation Medicine Associates' physiatrists focus on maximizing function. We care for patients with acute and chronic pain, and musculoskeletal problems like back and neck pain, tendonitis, pinched nerves and sports injuries. We also treat people who have survived severe or traumatic brain injury; and individuals who have had strokes, orthopedic injuries, or neurologic disorders such as multiple sclerosis, polio, or ALS.

Our doctors work with their patients and evaluate them to develop a customized course of treatment. This may include one or more non-surgical treatments, and enlist the expertise of a broad range of health care providers. Coordination of care includes:
  • medications
  • prescriptions of physical, occupational and speech therapies
  • therapeutic exercises
  • injections
  • assistive devices, such as a brace or artificial limb
  • heat and cold therapy
  • biofeedback and electrotherapies
  • acupuncture
Physiatrists work with patients and their surgeons before surgery, and coordinate care afterward. Our doctors help patients achieve recovery by working with other physicians, such as neurologists and orthopedic surgeons, and health professionals, like physical and occupational therapists, speech pathologists and psychologists, chiropractors, acupuncturists and massage therapists.

Physiatrists treat conditions of the bones, muscles, joints, brain and nervous system, which can affect other systems of the body and limit a person's ability to function.

From low back pain and herniated discs to carpal tunnel syndrome and tendonitis, physiatrists seek to not only reduce and eliminate chronic pain, but also prevent its recurrence. Your RMA physiatrist may help to diagnose and refer to specialty centers.
